As a member of MYAC’s Vocal Point, I had the opportunity to perform in ‘We Are Here’: Songs From The Holocaust.” The concert was held at The Salt Shed in Chicago, a major venue capable of holding up to 3600 audience members. The size of the venue was breathtaking and it thrilled me to think that I’d be performing on stage. The program featured song lyrics written in concentration camps and ghettos during the Holocaust.
Our choir shared the stage with many talented local choirs such as Niles North Highschool CHoir, HHS Performing Highschool, and Deerfield Choir, forming into a one big ensemble. This opportunity brought out the best in our choir, mixing emotional depth with the sound in a large venue.
This performance was a reminder that singing can be more than an art form – it can be a way of remembrance of our story.
