Becoming a part of the Midwest Young Artists Chicago (MYAC) orchestra had been one of the most formative steps in my musical journey. My violin teacher prompted me to join the organization in 2019. I started in their Philharmonic Orchestra and worked my way up to their Symphony Orchestra in 2022, where I still play currently. As my first youth orchestra experience, MYAC completely reshaped the way I approached ensemble playing. Every Saturday morning rehearsals were two hours, and it demanded focus, teamwork, and stamina. The repertoire was rigorous and high level, but each piece has been a step in growing my skills as an ensemble member and an individual violinist. Through MYAC, I learned the discipline and patience that orchestral collaboration requires, and it has aided me in the development of my violin skills. The process of growing from one orchestra to the next wasn’t always easy, but every challenge has built my confidence as both a performer and a teammate. MYAC continues to challenge me to grow beyond technical ability, shaping how I listen, lead, and connect through music.
