1. Background of Piano
I’ve always seen piano as a foundation of music, and till now I still believe it to be so. I started learning piano from my mother and a private teacher, but through constant traveling and change of focus onto violin, I’ve learned piano mostly by myself and my mother. Unlike classical Violin, I was pulled towards jazz piano, learning chords and flipping through Real Books before I ever played czerny 40 or fur elise. Entering high school, I joined the jazz band in my school, which I’ve committed to all four years. Improvising solos on the spot helped me strengthen my skills immensely. I love accompanying myself while I sing or jamming with friends whenever I can, whether in the jazz band or just after school. There’s still so much to learn in classical music and even more to explore in jazz, and I hope to keep growing my skills in both.
2. Singing as a guest artist
The end of the season concert of our Jazz band, Jazz and Java, is not an ordinary concert. Our performance resembles a jazz club, with our band playing on the floor and the audience sitting at round tables. Ushers also act as waiters and take orders for coffees and small cookies so that the audience can enjoy the concert as they would in a cafe.
